Did it really return 5.5555555555-e8 for 0.00349999998? Or were these
possibly two different examples? And can you still trigger that error?

I can only reproduce this with 0.000034 which is returned as 3.4e-05.
But that's actually fine. And even more, it is also stored that way in
the database. Entering 0.00349999998 does not cause it to change the
number format.
