Dear community,
We would like to inform you about an important update to the Sipwise
release cycle, including a revised versioning and naming scheme that will
take effect with our next major releases.
To avoid any ambiguity, please note that Sipwise is introducing a new,
calendar-aligned major release naming convention. As part of this change,
the traditional sequential numbering will be replaced by a version number
that reflects the calendar year of the release.
As a result, while the next technical evolution after the current releases
would traditionally be referred to as mr14, the first release under the new
scheme will be branded as mr26, representing the year 2026.
This change is purely related to naming and lifecycle clarity. It does not
imply skipped functionality, reduced stability, or missing intermediate
releases. Instead, it is intended to simplify long-term planning, improve
transparency around support timelines, and align Sipwise releases more
closely with customers’ budgeting and roadmap cycles.
More in details:
- Starting with mr26, Sipwise will introduce a calendar-aligned major
release scheme
- The major release number reflects the year of release (e.g. mr26 →
2026, mr27 → 2027)
- Only for PRO and Carrier customers: the LTS will always be the release
with minor version .0.x (this replaces the previous .5.x LTS convention).
Example: mr26.0.1 → LTS release for mr26 (year 2026)
Estimated timeline of the next Releases:
- mr14.0.1: 17.12.2025
- mr14.1.1: 28.02.2026
- mr26.0.1 01.05.2026
- mr26.1.1: 30.06.2026
- mr26.2.1: 31.08.2026
- mr26.3.1: 31.10.2026
- mr27.0.1: 30.01.2027
Attention: all the dates shown for future releases are only indicative
estimates which may vary anytime, and should not be understood as official
release dates.
To summarize:
- Major release numbers will clearly indicate the release year
- Customers can more easily align upgrades with their own planning cycles
- Only for PRO and Carrier customers: The LTS will always use the .0.x
versioning scheme
- Only for PRO and Carrier customers: The LTS version will continue to
be supported for three years from its release date
Thank you
Marco
