hi Jon,

the shortest match pattern is given precedence, where short means the
literal string length of the regexp. to my knowledge this ever was
designed like this from the beginning.

the idea is to have specific patterns such as your ^34677705188
^34[6-7][0-9]+ only applied if you don't have a super-globbing .*
pattern fee in place.
