[Spce-user] Mediator not starting after upgrade

Hi all

After our upgrade from 2.8 to 3.8 the mediator is not running.

 Error connecting to STATS db: Access denied for user 'mediator'@'localhost'
(using password: YES)

is the reason. Did something change between those versions in that regard?
I know 3.8 is eol and we'll upgrade from it but would like to get this
going in the meantime.
