sems was the culprit, it was failing with:

The files where only readable by root, changing them to 644 solved the
issue, simple as that! I'll now have to do a cleanup and forensics why
and when the permissions where changed, will update this thread after
that :-)

Thanks a million for your help, I was just looking at kamailio, it
never occured to me that sems was the problem!
